China Daily reports that a new policy from the Ministry of
Industry and Information Technology will mandate that all new residences have a
fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connection where such broadband access networks are
available.
The policy, which goes into effect April 1 of this year.
Alcatel-Lucent has been chosen to expand China Telecom’s broadband access network, bringing
services such as IPTV, video-on-demand, and voice-over-IP (VoIP) services to
millions of homes in China.
France Telecom-Orange and Alcatel-Lucent say they have deployed the world’s first optical link with a capacity of 400 Gbps per wavelength in a live network. Following a successful field trial, the 400-Gbps-per-wavelength fiber-optic link is now operational between Paris and Lyon.
ReplyDeleteThe networking industry is taking a new shape at the moment, and most of the companies operating in the industry are trying to reengineer themselves. Software defined networking technology (SDN) is the future, and this technology will most probably provide the future growth for networking companies. This technology, however, is in its infancy at the moment. SDN has the potential to transform the industry, and decrease the use of fixed locations and hardware.
ReplyDeleteRecently, Alcatel-Lucent(ALU) has also decided to enter the segment after realizing the potential in the market, this step should give its investors some encouragement.
